Every government degenerates when left to the rulers of the people alone, the people are its only safe depositories. Those words were stated by Thomas Jefferson during the discussion on the principles of our constitution. I find a lot of wisdom in those words and see the truth of those words present in the ideals of our current political system. Sadly our government has degenerated greatly through the latter years of the 20th century. Our government has faltered from its intended course as designed by our founding fathers. Our elected representatives have derogated from their duty of service to the constituents of this great nation and instead have chosen to serve the interest of lobbyists and special interest groups. Our representatives have bailed out wall street while leaving the greater society to suffer the hardships of a collapsed economy with the promises of better times to come. The bail outs for special interest groups are not limited to federal government, but is present on the state level as well as evidenced by State Representative Kurt Kelly of Ocala, Florida.
Mr. Kelly is proposing a bill in the state house that would give Thoroughbred Horse Tracks government incentives to raise the purse of track winnings. Mr. Kelly is drafting this proposal after the owner of Abracadabra Farms in Ocala Florida contacted his office with concerns that the thoroughbred industry is facing serious economic hardships.Instead of addressing the interests of the constituency as a whole, Mr. Kelly has decided to address The issues affecting a group of business owners that constitute less than 1% of his districts constituency. This is a great example of the mentality that our representatives have adopted concerning our economy. While ignoring the root cause of the problems, our representatives are drafting bills to address the symptoms created as a result of the underlying problem. While this may provide temporary relief, it will not fix the problem anymore than cough syrup will cure the flu, it just makes the symptoms more bearable. This is not the duty of service that "We The People" elected our representatives to perform.
It is time that "We The People" make our voice resonate with thunderous accord in Washington,
not through violence, but through our elected representatives. With the exception of the civil war,America has shown that over the course of 233 years we can, with dignity and virtue, come together as a united people and peacefully resolve our differences. Through the electoral process of our republican form of government that our founding fathers fought so diligently to secure for each and every one of us, we can bring our country together and restore the principles that our nation was founded upon. As it is the people of America that makes our nation great, the first responsibility of our government is to attend to society as a whole.
While it is clear that our nation is headed in a direction that is not consistent with our founding values and principles, I believe that their are still honest, patriotic Americans that posses the virtue and integrity to stand up announce that we will not sit by idly and watch our great nation perish by the hand of despotism. There is no time for procrastination when tyrants are knocking at the door, and there is also no time for waiting when our nation is succumbing to socialism. Our founding fathers lived under the hand of despotism and tyranny of King George until finally, after years of oppression they proclaimed their will to live in liberty, free from the constraints of despotism. I now ask that every American that believes in the principles of our founding fathers to join together in one great voice and proclaim our unalienable right to liberty and reclaim our rightful place as the "safe depositories" and restore our nation to a nation of principles and values.
